Multiple personal bests recorded by Trojans at Norfolk Catholic Invite

With districts set for Thursday, May, 15, the Wakefield girls and boys track & field team competed in one final tune up on May 8.

From the Norfolk Catholic Track, Thursday's Norfolk Catholic Invite showcased seven teams.

The Wakefield girls finished seventh with 31 points while the Wakefield boys placed fifth with 76  points.

In the girls division, Norfolk Catholic won their home invite with 129 points, Pierce followed in runner-up (114), O'Neill took third (79), Wisner-Pilger placed fourth (75) and Stanton rounded out the top five teams with 63 points.

The Wakefield girls were led by sophomore Boston Brown taking first in the triple jump (34' 9 1/2"). She finished third in the 300-meter hurdles (49.21) and third during 100-meter dash (16.36) after also having the third fastest prelim time which was a PR (16.3).

Sophomore Jennifer Hernandez picked up a personal best fifth place time during the 3200-meter run (15:12.52).

Junior Ashlyn Riewer tied for third during the pole vault (4' 7"/PR) and took sixth in the 200-meter dash (28.63). She posted the fifth fastest qualifying time which was a PR during the pre-lims (28.24).

In relays, the 4x100 of senior Alli Brown, Riewer, sophomore Montse Avila and junior Gracyn Keagle took fifth (54.72) along with sixth place finishes from both the all-freshmen 4x400 of Naomi Nelson, Rihanna Rivera, Kinslee Metzler and Kimberly Solano (4:59) along with the 4x800 of freshman Molly Schlickbernd, sophomore Jamie Lopez, sophomore Natalie Zuniga Hernandez and freshman Katelyn Walsh (11:46.35).

During the boys division, the host Knights won the team race with 111 points, O'Neill followed in second (95), Stanton took third (89), Pierce placed fourth (81) and Wakefield rounded out the top five teams with 76 points.

Junior Cael Johnson posted the top finish for the Wakefield boys winning the 300-meter hurdles (40.96). Johnson also took second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.76).

Senior Jesse Lundahl placed third in the discus (149' 6"); junior Brandon Paredes finished third during the triple jump (38' 11"); junior Mason Lamprecht took fourth in the 400-meter dash (56.66/PR) and was also fourth during the long jump (19' 9 1/2"/PR). Senior Timothy Kaufman earned a sixth place medal in the long jump (18' 9 3/4").

Sophomores William Benson (third - 2:15.28) and Baldwin Garcia (fourth - 2:18.66) both recorded personal bests and medaled.

Junior Benny Palma earned a bronze medal during the 3200-meter run (11:16.59) along with a fifth place medal in the 1600-meter run (5:03.93). Senior Adrian Flores also scored for the team with a sixth place medal during the pole vault (10' 4").

In relays, the 4x400 of Lundahl, junior Jacob Borg, Lamprecht and Johnson collected silver (3:43.14); the 4x800 of Borg, Palma, Benson and Garcia placed third (9:07.76) and the 4x100 of Borg, Johnson, Paredes and Lamprecht took fourth (46.48).

The Wakefield girls and boys track & field team will next compete in the C-3 District Championships hosted by Ponca on Thursday, May 15.
