Murphy homerun, Brongrebe complete game shutout with 12Ks gives Wildcat softball one-run victory

NSIC softball play continued for Wayne State College early Saturday morning with the goal of getting one if not both of their games in.

From the Pete Chapman Softball Complex, WSC entertained St. Cloud State starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

With the second game being canceled in the bottom of the third inning due to weather, Wayne State College secured a 1-0 victory over the Huskies. WSC improved to 19-12 (4-3 NSIC) as St. Cloud State fell to 25-10 (4-3 NSIC).

Following three straight scoreless innings in the first game, Wayne State College would plate the lone run of the game in the home half of the fourth. Senior Hayley Murphy recorded a solo homerun.

Final favored Wayne State College winning 1-0 despite being outhit, 6-3. WSC didn’t commit an error as St. Cloud State committed one error.

Hayley Murphy posted a solo homerun while redshirt freshman Kennadi Borngrebe doubled. Sophomore Lillie Timm also singled.

Borngrebe (129 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in seven scoreless innings allowing six hits while striking out 12 batters.

Again the second game was canceled due to weather in the bottom of the third inning on Saturday.
