Nancy L. Surber, 77 of Sioux City, Iowa, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025 at her residence surrounded and loved by family.
Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 18 at 5 p.m. at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation, with the family present, will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Nancy L. Surber was born June 3, 1947 in Sioux City to August A. and Avonell (Porter) Fredette. She received her education at Central High School in Sioux City and was proud to have obtained her GED later in life. Nancy married Michael “Mickey” C. Surber, Sr. on March 1, 1965 in Tijuana, Mexico. Areas that Nancy called home were South Sioux City, Nebraska (1977 to 2000), Dixon, Nebraska (2000 to 2010), Concord, Nebraska (2010 to 2020), and Sioux City, Iowa (2020 to present). She was a baker, working at Central Kitchen for South Sioux City Schools and enjoyed waitressing for the Marina Inn prior to 1982. She was very active with shopping and delivering supplies for the family business, Concord Components in Wayne, Nebraska from 2002 until 2019.
Nancy enjoyed word games on her iPhone, bingo, baking, cooking, and sewing. She loved to spend time with her family, always showing concern for all in her very wide circle of friends and family. Nancy loved large gatherings, and family and friends were always welcome at her home anytime.
Survivors include her children, Michael C. (Brenda) Surber, Jr. of Concord, Robert L. (Walka) Surber of Long Island, New York, Jeffrey A. (Mary) Surber of Concord and Sarah L. Surber of Sioux City, Iowa; Beth and Ronnie Bernier of Newberg, Oregon; brother Brian (Sue) Fredette of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and her beloved rescue baby, Drake.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael, Sr. on March 20, 2010; sisters, Beverly Berge, Barbara Smith, and Bobette Gonzales, and her brother Robert Fredette.
