The 2021 Elkhorn Valley Bank Northeast Nebraska Shootout got underway Tuesday with games at Wayne High School and Wayne State College.

Action continues Wednesday and Thursday at both locations.


Girls Results
Pierce 56, Pender 43 — A 13-2 second-quarter helped Pierce take control of the game and come away with the win. Payton Simmons scored a game-high 19 points and Elly Piper added 17 for the Bluejays. Claire Felber paced the Pendragons with 18 points.

Wayne 61, Winnebago 33 — Wayne built a 30-19 lead at intermission and advanced to Wednesday’s semifinal. Rubie Klausen hit three 3-point shots in the third quarter and finished with a game-high 21 points. Brooklyn Kruse added 14 for the winners. Winnebago was led by Sylvia Valentino with 17 points.

Hartington CC 58, Homer 42 — Cedar Catholic got off to a fast start, building a 20-4 first-quarter lead and cruising to the opening-round win. Makenna Noecker led the Trojans with a game-high 27 points, 15 coming in the first half. Rylie Harris led Homer with 22 points.

Auburn 46, LCC 44 — The closest game of the day was won by the Lady Bulldogs, who held off a Lady Bear fourth-quarter comeback effort to take the win. Olivia Swanson led Auburn with 10 points while Sydney Binder and Leah Grant each had nine. Mallory Eriksen had a game-high 17 points for the Lady Bears and Kinsey Hall added 16l

Wayne 86, Winnebago 53 — Wayne raced to a 35-9 first-quarter lead and didn’t look back as they easily handled the Indians. Five Blue Devils were in double figures, led by Tanner Walling’s 16 points. Alex Phelps had 15, Daniel lJudd scored 12 and Colsen Nelsen and Carter Junck both had 11. Dyami Berridge had 21 points to lead the Indians.

Auburn 58, LCC 43 — The defending Class C-1 champion Bulldogs needed a fourth-quarter rally to dispose of the Bears. Ryan Binder had a game-high 18 points and Marcus Hudson added 11 for the winners. LCC was led by Evan Haisch with 17 points and Jake Rath with 14.
