Temperatures are fluctuating, days are getting shorter and kids are getting bored . . . time for school to start.
Local schools will all begin classes next week . . . Wednesday, Aug. 17 to be exact.
At Wayne Public Schools, classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 17 with a 12 p.m. dismissal. The first full day of class will be held on Thursday, Aug. 18.
Prior to the start of school, Wayne Elementary Boosters (WEB) is hosting a freewill donation dinner at the Open House on Monday, Aug. 15, 5-7 p.m, at Wayne Elementary School.
Allen Consolidated Schools will host a "Back to School Night" for all students in preschool through sixth grade on Tuesday, Aug. 16 from 6-7 p.m. Parents are encouraged to tour classrooms and meet teachers at this time.
A seventh grade orientation will be held at 6 p.m. that same evening.
Classes begin for students in kindergarten through 12th grade on Wednesday, Aug. 17 with a 1:30 p.m. dismissal. The first day of school for preschool will be Monday, Aug. 22.
At Wakefield Community Schools, the 63rd annual Flag Raising ceremony will be held Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 8:15 a.m. The community is invited to attend the ceremony. Aug. 17 is also the first day of school for students at Wakefield.
A "Meat and Greet" event will be held at the Wakefield School on Monday, Aug. 15 from 5-7 p.m. Students, parents and famlies who will attend will receive complimentary tickets for hamburgers or hot dogs provided by the School Board.
At Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, an Open House Night will be held from 5:30-8 p.m. in all buildings on Tuesday, Aug. 16. There will be ninth-grade orientation at 4 p.m. in the high school and fifth-grade orientation at 5 p.m. at the Middle School.
The first day of classes for students at LCC will be Wednesday, Aug. 17 with a 1:37 p.m. dismissal.
Winside Public School students will have a preschool and kindergarten Back to School Night on Tuesday, Aug. 16 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Students at St. Mary's Elementary School in Wayne will begin classes on Wednesday, Aug. 17. The students will be dismissed at 12 p.m. on the first day. Regular classes will be held Thursday, Aug. 18 when classes run from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
