No. 15-ranked Winona State swept a twinbill from Wayne State in NSIC action Tuesday in Winona, Minn., winning 6-2 and 5-0.
In the opener, the Wildcats got on the board in the top of the third on Emily Chandler's solo homer to left field, but the Warriors came back in the bottom of the inning, hitting two homers of Wayne State pitcher Cassy Miller to take a 3-1 lead.
Wayne State pulled two within two at 4-2 in the fifth when Chandler's groundout to second base scored Lexie Loos, but the Warriors added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth to put the game out of reach.
Loos went 1-for-4 and Sam O'Brien and Abbie Hix also added hits for the Wildcats in the losing effort. Miller pitched four innings in the loss, striking out one and allowing three hits and four walks.
In the nightcap, Winona State broke the game open in the fourth inning with a three-run homer by Reed Karsten to make it 4-0, then added a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to finish off the sweep.
Wayne State was limited to five hits in the loss, two coming from Loos. Hix, Katelyn Wobken and Alyssa Schropp both added hits.
Wayne State's doubleheader with Nebraska-Kearney that was scheduled for Wednesday is being rescheduled due to poor field conditions. This weekend's home doubleheaders with Northern State and MSU Moorhead are still on the schedule for Saturday and Sunday, but times and locations may change due to the field conditions.
