Seventh-ranked Winona State blanked Wayne State College 9-0 in five innings and 10-0 in the home finale for the Wildcat softball team Wednesday at the Chapman Complex in Wayne.

The story of the first game was a no-hitter thrown by Winona State’s Jordyn Kleman in the 9-0 Warrior victory that put the Warriors (41-5, 26-0 NSIC) over the 40-win mark for the season. She allowed a first-inning walk to Kim Vidlak and a fifth-inning free pass to Kamryn Sparks for the only Wildcat base runners in the contest.

Maddie Moser fired a complete game in the loss for the Wildcats.

The second game saw the Wildcats stay with the Warriors until late in the contest as Winona State scored three runs in the fourth and four more in the seventh to complete the sweep.

Down 3-0 entering the bottom of the third, Wayne State got two runners on with a single by Raquell Penke and Kortney Buresh hit by a pitch before a fielder’s choice and line out ended the Wildcat scoring threat.

Wayne State had four hits in the contest, led by Taylor Menard going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Morgan Vasa and Penke also singled.

Makenna Adkison suffered the pitching loss in three innings of work. Riley Vanderveen pitched three innings of relief with Moser pitching the final frame.

The Wildcats (12-31, 3-23 NSIC) close out the regular season this weekend at Bemidji State Saturday and Minnesota Crookston Sunday, with doubleheaders starting at 12 p.m. each day.
