Are you feeling it yet? It’s August; the end of the summer is quickly approaching. Soon kids will be back in school. Soon thousands of college students will descend upon Wayne for another semester of studies. Soon we will stop talking about the heat and start talking about raking leaves.
In this season of changes, as people settle back into different routines and normals, it is good to remember what the Apostle Paul says in Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”
God has given each and every one of you your vocations; these are your different roles in life. This could be mother, son, student, teacher, single, married, whatever position in life you are at. In each of these vocations we are called to faithfully follow God.
In this passage, Paul speaks to children, wives, husbands. He speaks into the reality that each of us has our different situations in life, and no matter how cushy or difficult they may be, we are to serve God.
As summer wraps up, some of you may not even notice. You are blessed to be enjoying retirement, and the weather changing is the biggest difference you will feel in the fall. For some of you, this new year brings a large change as your child goes off to college for the first time. For some of you, it will just be a slight adjustment to your daily routine.
Whatever this change in season brings, whatever situation you find yourself in, “work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord.” Knowing that on top of all these situations is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who loves you. You are called to serve and follow Christ. This should shape every area of your life with how you interact with others, how you spend your time and money, etc. In any and all situations, serve God faithfully, because He is faithful even unto His death on a cross for you. Amen
