Ahead of a busy week in the pool, the Norfolk High Swimming teams took part in their first invitational on Saturday which also included an individual from Wayne.
As Wayne High is in their first year of a cooperative agreement with Norfolk for boys swimming, the Norfolk Swim team picked up a first place team finish with 330 points among the eight teams in action. Kearney took runner-up with 181 points edging Beatrice in third (180).
Freshman Kyler Parker from Wayne, swam a leg on the 200 Medley Relay during the 200 Freestyle (23.86). The team of Parker, junior Finn Barrett, senior Emmett Haake and senior Teagan Cleveland swam in 1:45.51 to earn an automatic state qualifying time.
Parker also swam a leg on the second place 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a split of 23.88. He was joined by Teagan (Sr.) and Madux (Fr.) Cleveland and freshman Tayler Galyen.
Parker also finished fifth during the 50 Freestyle (24.20) and seventh during the 100 Butterfly (1:01.63).
The Norfolk Girls Swimming team also finished first in the team standings with 290 points ahead of runner-up Beatrice (279).
The Norfolk Swimming team will continue their season on Tuesday, December 10 with a road dual at Fremont starting at 4:30 p.m. before traveling to Columbus for an invite on Saturday, December 14 at 11:30 a.m.
