Norma C. (Bichel) Peterson, 91, of Carroll, died Monday, June 1, 2026 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 22 at One Hope Church in Wayne, with visitation one hour prior to service. Private Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery Carroll.
Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.
Norma Carolyn (Bichel) Peterson was born on a farm in Wayne County east of Wayne, one of 10 children. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church south of Wakefield. She was a graduate of Wayne High School. Norma married her sweetheart, John Peterson at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church rural Wakefield on Sept. 18, 1955.
The couple moved to a farm east of Carroll where Norma worked hard as a farm wife working alongside of John in the fields, raising bottle calves, chickens, and pigs. She raised meat chickens for area families and had a large vegetable and flower gardens. For several years, Norma owned and operated the grocery store in Carroll. She enjoyed interacting with friends and neighbors every day at the store. Over the years, she enjoyed refinishing furniture, knitting, baking and canning the produce from her garden. Life was best on the farm.
Norma’s family includes her daughters, Carol (Lane) Ostendorf of Sioux City, Iowa and Katherine Peterson of Oakland; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nine siblings, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding Norma in death were her parents; husband, John, in 2013; son, Larry, in 2025; granddaughter Marcie and grandson Michael, and siblings: Glenn Bichel, Ardath Bichel, Ron Bichel, Bud Bichel, Russell Bichel and Joyce Walker.
