Two of the Northeast Nebraska Crush youth baseball teams were in action in late June.
Crush 8u compete in three, single run games Lincoln Building champions tourney
Following nearly two weeks off from competition, the Northeast Nebraska Crush 8u youth baseball team returned to weekend action.
From the Lincoln Building Champions Tourney, the Crush played in three close games June 21 - 22.
Crush 8u began the weekend with a 2-1 win over Golden Spikes 8u followed by a 7-6 win against Prime Bergman 8u on June 21.
On June 22, the Crush dropped a 6-5 decision to the Grand Island Riverdogs in the Gold bracket to now sit 18-7 on the season.
For the weekend, Luke Williamson recorded a team-high seven hits (three singles, three doubles, one triple) while Ethen Valenzuela added two doubles. Williamson also led the team with five RBI followed by Valenzuela with four runs batted in. Kannon Kalin and Williamson both tallied four runs scored.
Williamson (86 pitches) pitched four of the 12 total innings appearing in two games. He allowed two earned runs off four hits while striking out nine batters, walking four and hitting one.
Valenzuela (57) worked two and a third innings starting one game. He allowed an earned run while striking out six batters, walking four and hitting one.
The Northeast Nebraska Crush 8u youth baseball team will next compete against Outlaws - Moore 8u on Sunday, June 29 at 3/4:30 p.m. in Columbus.
Crush 10u split road doubleheader
After last being in action on June 8 during a weekend tournament, the Northeast Nebraska Crush 10u youth baseball team played twice on June 20.
From Norfolk, the Crush visited Norfolk Steel 10u.
Crush 10u won the opening game, 8-6 before falling 18-3 in the nightcap. The Crush are now 21-5-2 on the season.
During the first contest, Andrew Smith singled, doubled, drove in three runs and scored while Gavin Prince singled, drove in a run and scored twice.
Kyler Wiebelhaus singled, drove in a run and scored; Ty Wittler and Brooks Jairam both singled and scored; Maxx Wohlers singled and drove in a run as Kyson Garcia scored twice.
Thomas Plager (20 pitches) started the opening inning allowing two earned runs off two hits while striking out two batters and walking one.
Wittler (30) worked an inning allowing an earned run off one hit while striking out three batters, walking two and hitting one. Wohlers (31) pitched an inning allowing three runs (two earned) off two hits while striking out one batter and walking two.
In the final outing, Wohlers doubled, drove in a run and scored. Adrian Zarate and Garcia both scored.
Zarate (27) opened the first two-thirds of an inning allowing seven runs (six earned) off six hits while walking one batter and hitting two. Ryan Magnuson (five) pitched a third of an inning followed by Gavin Prince (18) with a third of an inning allowing four earned runs off one hit while walking three batters.
Plager (18) didn't record an out allowing five runs (four earned) off two hits while walking two batters and hitting one. Wittler didn't record an out allowing two runs while striking out and walking two batters each.
The Northeast Nebraska Crush 10u youth baseball team will next visit the Vermillion Tanagers in South Dakota on Thursday, June 26 at 6:30 p.m. and also face Memorial 10u on Sunday, June 29 at 2/3:30 p.m.
