The Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department (NNPHD) has announced the groundbreaking of a new Public Health Department facility located at 801 Milo Drive in Wayne.
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Friday, Aug. 23, at 11:30 am, marking a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to expand access to essential public health services, clinic services, community health programs, and response to public health emergencies.
This location neighbors Magnusen Hopkins Eye Care and Family First Dental in the northwest area of Wayne. NNPHD proudly serves Cedar, Dixon, Thurston, and Wayne Counties.
The new facility will serve as a hub for critical public health services and initiatives aimed at improving the health and well-being of our community.
This new structure is funded through multiple grant sources and will create new opportunities for an enhanced oral health program, scheduled vaccine clinics, and new educational opportunities with a full-size classroom. Emergency Preparedness will be fully equipped with easy and accessible storage. The new building will comprise a conference room, a training room, a clinic area, program offices, and controlled storage for vaccines. A drive-thru garage will also assist with drive-thru vaccine clinics and storage for tick and mosquito-trapping equipment.
“We are excited to begin construction on this vital facility, which is designed to be a welcoming and inclusive environment to serve the growing diverse communities we serve in Northeast Nebraska,” said Colleen Hupke, Executive Director of NNPHD. “This new building represents our commitment to advancing public health and ensuring that all residents have access to the services they need to lead healthier lives.”
NNPHD appreciates developer and contractor Kelby Herman, Progressive Builders, and Architect Jill Broderson, who were willing to take on this challenge of constructing a facility to serve the community.
"Additionally, we are grateful for our Board of Health, all the communities and representatives in our four counties, and the City of Wayne for their support on this project. The groundbreaking ceremony will include remarks from project partners and a ceremonial turning of the soil to officially begin the construction process. Please join us in celebrating this addition to Northeast Nebraska health and wellness resources," said Hupke.
