NSIC championship results for Wildcat cross country program

NSIC Championship cross country action took over the Saturday schedule for Wayne State College.

Following a delay due to morning frost at the Souris Valley Golf Course Country Course, Minot State University was the host over the weekend.

The Wayne State College women finished 13th out of 15 teams with 378 points (projected ninth during preseason poll) while the Wildcat men took 10th out of 13 teams with 257 points (projected 11th during preseason poll).

In the women’s division, Augustana won the NSIC team title with 54 points, University of Mary followed in second with 72 points, Winona State took third (75), Minnesota Duluth placed fourth (98) and Minnesota State-Mankato rounded out the top five teams with 107 points.

The Wayne State College women’s cross country team was led by Kaitlyn Bloomenrader in 79th place during a time of 23:32.2 followed by Allie Czapla in 86th at 23:43.4 and Sydney Escritt was 104th in a time of 24:28.2. There were 144 runners on the women’s 6,000-meter course.

Other results came from Madeline Kunz (104th – 24:34.6), Callie Kirchner (106th – 24:40.1), Jozlyn Barnes (116th – 25:29.8), Taylor Thorp (117th – 25:37.0), Maelee Beacom (127th – 26:18.8) and Madi McKie (132nd – 26:44).

During the men’s division, Augustana captured the team title with 31 points, well ahead of second-place MSU Moorhead (70), Minnesota Duluth took third (106), University of Mary placed fourth (134) and Sioux Falls rounded out the top five teams with 138 points.

The Wayne State College men’s cross country team was led by Ethan Walters taking 34th during a time of 25:15.5, followed by Quentin Dreyer in 44th at 25:33.6 and Brody Lucas 46th at 25:37.5. There were 133 runners on the men’s 8,000-meter course.

Other results came from Akron Jostand (80th – 26:18.4), Brandon Mitzel (98th – 27:22.5), Andrew Wyllie (105th – 27:01.9), Brady Franzen (106th – 27:02.6), William Keller (111th – 27:20.9) and Simeon Weers (131st – 29:51.5).

The Wayne State College women’s and men’s cross country team will next prepare for the NCAA DII Central Region race on Saturday, Nov. 9 hosted in Joplin, Missouri.
