For the first time in its young five-year history of being an NSAA sanctioned sport, the Wayne High girls wrestling team had an individual champion crowned by the name of Nyla Bolles.
It wasn't the start of her senior year of high school she wanted being sidelined during most of the softball season in the fall following an injury during summer wrestling. But, the now three-time state medalist didn't let that slow her down after putting in the extra work to finish with gold.
Feb. 18-19 were the dates for the 2026 NSAA Girls State Wrestling Championships where the Class B 140-pounder finished a perfect 4-0 and avenged her lone loss of the season.
Bolles (140lb) finished her senior season at 55-1.
Along with wrestling and softball, Nyla Bolles also competes in track & field at Wayne. Being on the National Honor Society is another top highlight for Nyla at Wayne
Nyla has qualified for state three times. She previously earned a runner-up medal last year (135) in Class A along with a bronze medal (130) in 2024 during the third and final year of all weights being one class for NSAA.
Following her freshman year, all she wanted to do was make it to state. The next year at the first practice, coaches had the wrestlers write down a goal on a note card.
Nyla would liked to thank everybody who has been part of her wrestling journey from their support, encouragement and belief.
With high school graduation nearing, Nyla plans on continuing her wrestling career with an announcement coming soon on her college decision. She would like to pursue a degree in dentistry.
