It took extra time for a pair of 0-5 northeast Nebraska high school eight-man football teams to get their first win of the season.
From Allen, Tri County Northeast only needed one overtime to score and win 26-20 over Wakefield on homecoming.
The Wolfpack improved to 1-5 and snapped a six-game losing streak as the visiting Trojans dropped their 23rd straight game falling to 0-6.
The Allen/Emerson-Hubbard co-op held an 8-6 advantage in the first quarter before both teams scored six points in the second quarter. TCNE led 14-12 at half.
Neither team scored in the third as Wakefield used an 8-6 advantage in the fourth to force overtime. Tri County Northeast put points on the board in extras to win 26-20.
For the Wolfpack, senior Thatcher Lamp finished 5-11 for 66 yards with two passing touchdowns and an interception. He also added 128 yards on 21 rushes (long of 16).
Senior Devin Reinert tallied 13 carries for 92 yards (long of 24), one score and a two-point conversion reception along with sophomore Braxten Sebade scoring on the ground and hauling in a 40-yard touchdown reception.
Sophomore Knox Lamp had two catches for 18 yards and one score.
Freshman Ben Bousquet also had two carries for 14 yards and a four-yard reception.
Defensively for TCNE, sophomore Logan Morgan recorded a team-high 12 tackles (eight solo) as Thatcher Lamp (seven solo) and Bousquet (six solo) both had 10 tackles.
Knox Lamp finished with eight solo tackles, two tackles for loss and a blocked point, Sebade closed with eight tackles (five solo), a tackle for loss and an interception along with junior Landyn Servine posting seven tackles (three solo) and a tackle for loss.
Reinert had two interceptions for Tri County Northeast.
For Wakefield, senior Jacob Borg finished 7-13 for 119 yards with one passing touchdown and three interceptions. He also had 45 yards on 19 carries with one rushing touchdown.
Senior Mason Lamprecht hauled in five catches for 96 yards and a score along with 29 rushing yards on three attempts.
Junior Carter Kratke added four rushes for 19 yards and one score along with a 12-yard reception.
Senior Benny Palma tacked on seven carries for 34 yards and a seven-yard reception.
Defensively, senior Ruben Vega led the Trojans with 17 tackles (13 solo) and a tackle for loss followed by sophomore Matthew Metzler (two tackles for a loss, half sack), senior Jaden Sievers (sack and a half) and Borg (three tackles for loss) all with seven tackles.
Kratke recorded five tackles and a forced fumble as senior Lane Fischer tallied two tackles and an interception.
Head Wakefield football coach Joe Kvidera said, "this was a really tough loss. We played pretty well through most of the game and had our opportunities to win but in the end we came up short. We will need to bounce back quickly as we have another tough test this week with Pender."
Tri County Northeast will next visit Homer (0-6) on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. (close vs. GACC Oct. 17).
