Wayne opened and closed their home Blue Devil Invitational in fine fashion, using a pair of no-hitters to come away with the tournament title in the seven-team invite Saturday at the Summer Sports Complex.

Wayne opened with an 8-0 blanking of Centura/Central Valley, with Tori Kniesche tossing a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and just one walk. She faced one batter above the minimum and got plenty of help on offense with eight hits, three coming from Kennedy Maly while Jenna Trenhaile added two hits. Maly had three RBI’s in the win.

In their second game, Wayne spotted Ord two first-inning runs, then blew up for nine in the third on their way to a 10-2 win. Trenhaile had a bases-clearing double and Maly hit a two-run, inside-the-park home run to highlight the win. Maly, Annie Kniesche and Abby Ankeny each had two hits, and Trenhaile and Maly both scored twice. Kniesche got the win in relief, striking out 12 and walking four as Wayne allowed just one hit.

In the championship game, Wayne scored early and often and Kniesche struck out 10 and walked two for her second no-hitter of the day in a 10-0 win over Highway 91. Trenhaile had three hits and Maly and Sidney Biggerstaff each had two as Wayne improved to 3-1 with the win. Trenhaile scored three times and Maly and Josie Thompson both came home twice.

Wayne will play a doubleheader at O’Neill on Tuesday before taking part in the Lincoln Public Schools tournament next Saturday, Aug. 26.
