PALS promotes inclusion and opportunity during Down Syndrome Awareness Month

Posted

In recognition of Down Syndrome Awareness Month this October, Providence Medical Center’s PALS program is highlighting the importance of inclusive activities that help children of all abilities stay active, build friendships and develop skills that last a lifetime.

PALS, which stands for Pushing All LimitS, was founded in the summer of 2023 by Physical Therapist Molly Redden and Occupational Therapist Sydney Chase after they noticed a common trend among the children they served. While students made progress throughout the school year, some lost skills during the summer months when fewer activities were available to them.

Participants have developed their motor skills, grown in confidence and strengthened their social skills.

During Down Syndrome Awareness Month, PALS serves as a reminder that inclusion means more than awareness. It means creating meaningful opportunities for people of all abilities to participate, contribute and build relationships within their communities.
