Parker scores 12 points for Norfolk boys swimming at HAC Championships

Following a week and a half off from swimming competition, Kyler Parker from Wayne was back in the pool continuing season number one of a co-op with Norfolk High boys swimming.

From the Fremont Family YMCA, the Heartland Athletic Conference swimming and diving competition was held this past weekend.

Girls swimming took over last Friday in the morning with the boys in action during the evening.

Parker from Wayne had two individual events on Friday. During the 50 Free he dropped 21-hundreths of a second to place 12th (23.74) and advance to the finals along with improving his 100 Fly time by dropping 77-hundreths of a second again placing 12th in 57.55 seconds and advancing to the finals.   

In relay competition, freshman Kyler Parker swam legs during the 200 Free Relay with senior Tegan Cleveland, freshman Tyler Galyen and freshman Madux Cleveland and dropped one second flat earning fourth place and advancing to the championship finals in a time of 1:31.46 (Parker swam 23.29).    

Also, the Norfolk 400 Free relay showcased Parker with senior Emmett Haake Galyan and junior Finn Barrett who dropped. Nine-tenths of a second to place third advancing to the championship final with a preliminary time of 3:25.73. Parker posted a 52.54 100-yard split.

On Saturday both the Norfolk girls and Norfolk boys were in action.

Parker first started with a personal best time in the 50 Free to finish 12th overall (23.60) and score five team points while in the best individual finish at the HAC Swimming Championships was the 100 Fly where Parker finished with another personal best time of 57.16 to place 10th scoring seven team points.

The 200 Free Relay team placed fourth scoring 30 team points during a time of 1:31.92 (Parker swam a split of 23.26). Parker then led off the 400 Free Relay team recording a personal best 51.74 for his 100 yard split. The team then dropped 2.44 seconds earning a bronze medal and 32 team points finishing in 3:23.29.

With the Heartland Athletic Conference swimming championships totaling team points only during the finals, the Norfolk boys took runner-up for the first time in school history among the 11 teams scoring 274 points. Lincoln East ran away with the HAC boys title with 570 points as Lincoln Southwest placed third with 255 points.

The Norfolk girls came away with third finish with 281 points. Lincoln East also won the girls division with 515 points followed by Lincoln Southwest with 366 points.

The 2025 NSAA State Swimming And Diving Championships will be Thursday, February 27 for diving as well as Friday, February 28 for swimming prelims and Saturday, March 1 for finals. Each athlete is able to swim a max of two relays and two individual events from the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln.

Norfolk’s relay teams, in which Parker has swam on, recorded automatic qualifying times earlier in the season. Based on a coaches decision, the swimmers will be decided upon for the three relays. Parker also has secondary qualifying times (wildcard times) for individual events in the 50 Free, 100 Free and 100 Fly. Times will be submitted with qualifiers to be announced soon.
