Wayne State College women’s soccer coach Joe Cleary announced that Alex Piekarski has been named assistant coach for the Wildcats.

“I am incredibly excited to welcome Coach Piekarski to Wayne State College and our soccer program,” said Cleary. “He checks all the boxes on what I was looking for in an assistant coach – he knows what it takes to be successful in the Northern Sun Conference and he is an incredibly loyal and hard-working individual. I am fortunate to be able to bring him into the program and I know he is looking forward to hitting the ground running and working with myself and our student-athletes.”

Piekarski comes to Wayne State after serving last season as an assistant coach at Utah State, where the Aggies were 12-9 and 7-4 in the Mountain West Conference. He also served two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at St. Cloud State. In his final season with the Huskies, SCSU was 9-6-3 and advanced to the NSIC Tournament.

Other coaching experience for Piekarski includes working as the director of recreational soccer for the Central Minnesota Youth Soccer Association and two seasons as a goalkeeper coach for the Appleton Soccer Club, where he also served as head coach for two teams in the association.

“I want to thank Coach Cleary and the entire Wayne State College athletic department for this opportunity,” remarked Piekarski. “It has been great to meet the student-athletes and I look forward to working with them and help them become the most successful they can be. It’s obvious there is a solid base in the program and I am looking forward to helping take Wildcat soccer to the next level.”

Piekarski earned his bachelor’s degree in middle childhood/early adolescence education and history from Lakeland University in Wisconsin, where he was a four-year letterwinner, earning first-team Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference honors in 2011 and 2012 and second-team honors in 2010.  He received his master’s degree from St. Cloud State in 2016 majoring in sports administration.

Piekarski will assist in all aspects of the women’s soccer program.
