Plans underway for Winside's Old Settlers

Area residents are being encouraged to make plans to attend this year's Winside Old Settlers events, scheduled for Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 13-16.

This year's celebration kicks off Thursday, June 13  with Nebraska historian Jeff Barnes’s presentation of “The Queen’s Road: Nebraska’s Bumpy Ride to Statehood.” 

The event will be at the Lied Winside Public Library beginning at 6 p.m. 

The program is sponsored by Humanities Nebraska.

Also on Thursday, the Winside FFA is sponsoring a Corn Hole tournament with registration beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Main Street.

A Slow Pitch Softball Tourney will begin at 5 p.m. at Weible Fields. Cash prizes will be awarded and a concession stand will be available. Contact Bianca at (402) 369-6375 for more information.

A Kids Obstacle Course will take place at the tennis courts at 6:30 p.m. Contact Abby at (402) 750-5133 for more information.

The 10th annual 5K Walk/Run will also take place at the tennis courts at 7 p.m. Abby is the contact for this event also.

Saturday's events start with a Bloody Mary Bar at Wildcat Bar & Grill at 9 a.m. 

The fifth annual Lawn Mower & Golf Cart Poker Run will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. No ATVs or UTVs will be allowed to be a part of the event. For more information, contact Jared at (402) 518-8111 or Jeff at (402) 369-3946.

Food venders will be located at the east end of the park, beginning at 5 p.m.

 A Craft Show will be held in the Village Park from 5 to 9 p.m.

The Winside Alumni Banquet will be held at the Winside Auditorium from 5 to 9 p.m. with classes ending in "4" to be honored.

A Street Dance, featuring Tim Zach, will be held from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. All gate proceeds will go to Winside PRIDE.

Sunday's events  will start with registration for the Car/Truck/Tractor Show at 10 a.m.  Registration will take place at the Marotz Building at 307 Main Street.

A Food Court will be available in the Winside Auditorium from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Churches in the community will have pies and ice cream available and the Winside School band department will have a meal available for purchase.

A Craft Show will once again be available at the park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., 

The ninth annual Gene Topp Memorial Car Show will take place on Main Street from 1 to 4 p.m. with the presentation of Colors by American Legion Post #252 at 1 p.m.

An open house and book sale at the Lied Winside Public Library will be held from 1 to 4 p.m.

The Winside Museum will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. 

One of the highlights of Sunday will be the Kiddie Parade at 2 p.m. on Main Street. Youth may enter two-wheeled, three-wheeled, four-wheeled and battery operated entries. However, gas-powered entries will not be allowed. Those taking part are asked to line up at the Winside Co-op. For more information contact Kathy at (402) 750-2744 or Shelby at (712) 898-0093.

From 2 to 5 p.m. the Burt Heithold Band will provide music in the auditorium and beginning at 2:30 p.m., a five-point pitch tournament will be held at the American Legion Hall.
