The Wayne High School Power Drive team traveled to I29 Speedway outside Pacific Junction, Iowa on April 12 to compete at the first Power Drive race of 2024.

"On a beautiful day for racing, the Blue Devils were excited to show off what they have been working on throughout the year," said Advisor Tony Cantrell

The Blue Devils brought three cars to compete in a 60 minute race on the 1.4 mile road course.

Car A107, driven by Braden Adams, took an early lead in Advanced class and never looked back.  A107 led the entire race, finishing with 20 laps and a 4.2 mile lead over second place.

Car E22, driven by Nina Hammer, battled for the lead in the early stages of the race in Exhibition class.  E22 took the lead shortly before the halfway point and began creating a sizable lead. Unfortunately, a mechanical issue sent the E39 to the pits for a quick repair before heading back onto the track.  The E22 finished in second place with 22 laps.

Car E39, driven by rookie driver Josh Doring, battled for third place throughout the race. Late in the race with third place locked in, the E39 began hunting down second place while at the time being the fastest car on the track. The E39 car ran out of time to make the pass, and finished the race in third place with 22 laps.

The Power Drive team races on Saturday, April 20 in Lincoln at the UNL Tractor Test Facility.
