Michaela Dendinger, Kacie O’Connor and Jadin Wagner each recorded NCAA provisional qualifying marks to lead the Wayne State track and field effort Thursday at the Concordia Invitational in Seward.
Dendinger posted two first-place finishes and had one NCAA provisional mark. She won the discus with an improved NCAA provisional mark of 168-5, moving her to the fourth-best throw in NCAA Div. II. Dendinger also won the shot put at 49-9 1/4 and was second in the hammer throw with a mark of 192-6.
O’Connor recorded a fifth-place finish in the discus with a toss of 147-10 and Wagner posted a fifth-place finish in the shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 46-3 1/4.
In running events, Joan Jelimo had a third-place finish in the 800-meter run at 2:25.16 with teammate Kim Lowman in eighth at 2:28.04.
In men’s action, Habib Jallow and Preston Davis posted the top finishes for the Wildcats.
Jallow was second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.29 seconds and also placed 10th in the 200-meter dash at 22.86 seconds. Davis came in third in the 400-meter dash (50.89) and was eighth in the 200-meter dash in 22.82 seconds.
Wayne State had four of the top 10 finishers in the hammer throw, with Cade Kalkowski fourth at 183-1, Dylan Kaup was seventh at 171-4, Matthew Nemec ninth (169-2) and Cole Christoffersen 10th at 164-3.
Nathan Pearson came in fifth in the 800-meter run at 2:00.1, while Jayle Hinkle was 10th in the shot put at 46-0.
Wayne State will compete at the Sioux City Relays on Friday and Saturday, April 13-14.
