Public hearings, tax requests on council agenda

Three public hearings and two resolutions involving the allocation of property taxes were part of Monday's (August 3) Wayne City Council meeting.

Prior to the public hearings, there was a request to waive the Wayne Fire Hall rental fee for a Friends of the Wayne Public Library's "Tea Party" on Sunday, Aug. 16.

No one from the public spoke during a public hearing in regard to the preliminary plat for Harvest Meadow Subdivision.

This involves a tract of land, containing four acres, more or less, owned by Virgil Kardell and located in the northeastern part of Wayne.

The second public hearing of the evening involved the Planning Commission's recommendation regarding a Use by Exception request  from Hansen Electric to construct a building on the property at 202 Nebraska Street.

The final public hearing of the evening was brought forth by the City of Wayne as a request to rezone from B-1 Highway Business to B-2 Central Business Lot 2 and part of Lot 1of the Riley's Addition to Wayne.

City Finance Director Beth Porter spoke on both these tax asking requests, noting Airport Authority's was a specific dollar amount, while the CRAs was a levy amount and the actual amount received will depend on valuation numbers.

In other action, council members approved a pay application in the amount of $66,080.72 to Otte Construction for the Well House and Municipal Well 2025-1 Project.

Council members then conducted a Budget Work Session. Each of the department heads within the city presented requests for their respective department for the coming year. Additional work on the coming fiscal year's budget will be finalized in coming weeks after city property valuations are received.

The Wayne City Council will next meet in regular session on Monday, Aug. 17 at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers.
