Put a spotlight on stress

Posted

Most of us have felt "stressed out," from time to time, but when this feeling persists, stress becomes chronic and can negatively impact our careers, quality of life, and our bodies.

April, designated as Stress Awareness Month, serves as a reminder to recognize and manage stress before it takes a lasting toll.

Experts say the first step is identifying stressors. Keeping a stress journal can help track triggers, emotions, and coping responses, revealing patterns that may otherwise go unnoticed. Once stressors are clear, individuals can take action—whether by setting limits, altering situations, or changing their reactions.

Learning to say “no” is key to avoiding overload, while better time management can reduce pressure from tight schedules. When stressors can’t be eliminated, reframing them with a positive outlook can ease the burden.

Self-care also plays a vital role. Activities such as walking, reading, or connecting with friends provide daily relief. Regular exercise, healthy eating, and sufficient rest further strengthen resilience against stress.

Stress may be inevitable, but with awareness and proactive strategies, it can be managed effectively—turning April into not just Stress Awareness Month, but a starting point for healthier living.
