Race number four in books for Wildcat cross country

Following a week off from race action, the Wayne State College women's and men's cross country program returned to the course on Oct. 11.

From the Dordt Campus Course in Sioux Center, Iowa, WSC competed in the Dordt Invite.

The Wayne State College women finished 17th with 454 points while the Wildcat men totaled 356 points to place 14th.

In the women's division, sophomore Allie Czapla led WSC in 85th place during a time of 23:25.9 followed by junior Callie Kirchner in 93rd (23:41.93).

Other Wildcat results came from senior Sydney Escritt (114th - 24:19.21), freshman Kyla Krusemark (126th - 24:52.47), senior Madeline Kunz (127th - 24:54.23), sophomore Kaitlyn Bloomenrader (130th - 25:03.15), junior Meghan Cunningham (131st - 25:03.49), senior Maelee Beacom (138th - 25:37.62) and sophomore Madi McKie (140th - 25:57.39).

Minnesota State-Mankato won the women's team race with 28 points ahead of the host Dordt in second (59).

Freshman Grace Steinmetz from Belleuve (NE) was crowned champion of the Gold 6k race in a time of 20:40.39 among the 150 runners.

During the men's division, senior Brody Lucas led the Wildcats in 59th place during a time of 26:11.18, followed by sophomore William Keller in 67th (26:19.61), junior Brady Franzen (74th - 26:26.73) and freshman Lucas Frazier (78th - 26:32.51) were all within  22 seconds of each other.

Other Wildcat results came from freshman Matt Richardson (128th - 28:01.18), freshman Jacob Greving (129th - 28:04.77), freshman Drew Martin (136th - 28:17.47), sophomore Gannon Walsh (138th - 28:30.58), sophomore Ethan Walters (139th - 28:44.15) and freshman Keaton Bowker (142nd - 29:08.66).

Augustana won the men's team race with 30 points ahead of South Dakota State in second (40).

Sophomore Dale Johnson from South Dakota State was crowned champion of the Gold 8k race in a time of 24:06.44 among the 147 runners.

The Wayne State College women's and men's cross country program is off this weekend and will next host the NSIC Championships on Friday, Oct. 24 at the Wayne Country Club.

The women's race will open at noon followed by the men's race at 1:15 p.m.
