After nearly 32 years in business, Rainbow World Preschool and Child Development Center is changing its name.
According to Board President Liesel Powicki, the center has chosen Little Roots Child Development Center & Preschool to reflect the center’s values and purpose. While the name is changing, the vision remains the same: to create a learning environment that is inclusive, positive, and safe for the 134 children at the center.
Little Roots serves children birth - 12 years old, through its infant through school-aged program and has others, mostly infants, on its waiting list. The center employs 35 - 40 staff throughout the year, including a director, curriculum coordinator, summer camp coordinator, food service coordinator, lead teachers, paras, and part-time workers.
Over the past year, the center has been preparing for the name change as they have revamped the child care center room names and programming with the recent adoption of a new curriculum for the preschool center rooms, "The Creative Curriculum."
Local community grants and partnerships allowed the center to remodel the lower level into an area more conducive to learning and to enhance the school-age after-school program and summer camp.
This spring the center will also see an entire playground renovation thanks to assistance from the Nebraska Restoration and Enhancement Grant. While this will not cover the cost of the full amount of the renovation, the grant has paved the way for a necessary remodel that will create developmentally appropriate outdoor opportunities for both fine and gross motor development for all ages at the center.
“We are excited about these changes and look forward to the continued improvements operating under our new name, Little Roots Child Development Center & Preschool,” Powicki said.
The center will continue to fulfill its mission: providing quality preschool and childcare for the greater Wayne community.
