Rasmussen scores 39 for LCC girls, Plattsmouth boys tab most points of first round tourney games

Game number seven and eight closed out day one of the Wayne Holiday Basketball Tournament.

Back at Rice Auditorium, it was Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls and boys facing a Class B opponent of Plattsmouth Friday evening.

The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls stormed back late to win 66-58 while the Plattsmouth boys pulled away in their game 79-50.

In the girls game, LCC held the early 17-10 lead before Plattsmouth chipped away at the deficit with a 12-11 second. The Bears remained ahead 28-22 at the break. Plattsmouth came out firing with a 32-18 advantage in the third before LCC used a 20-4 scoring clip in the fourth. Final favored Laurel-Concord-Coleridge winning 66-58 as both teams are now 5-2 on the season.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge leaders were sophomore Rena Rasmussen with 39 points (14-17 FT) as she made 14 straight foul shots in the second half.

Other scoring came from sophomore Kaida Eriksen with nine points, senior Lainey Schutte added eight points, sophomore Carlie Kvols tallied five points, junior Camryn Sohler tacked on three points as sophomore Hattie McCorkindale scored two points.

The Bears finished 22-31 (11-12 in the fourth) at the charity stripe.

Plattsmouth was led by senior Averi Winters with 17, senior Mila Wehrbein added 14 points as senior Jolie Dix followed with 12 points.

The Blue Devils shot 9-16 from the foul line.

During the boys outing, Plattsmouth led 16-13 after the opening quarter and added their lead with a 16-12 second to go up 32-25 at half. The Blue Devils then posted a 27-14 advantage in the third quarter along with a 20-11 scoring clip in the fourth. Final favored Plattsmouth winning 79-50 to improve to 2-5 as the Bears dropped their third straight now at 4-3.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge leaders were senior Gibson Roberts with 20 points as sophomore Cade Johnson added 11 points.

Other scoring came from senior Connor Korth with five points, senior Caleb Erwin tallied four points, sophomore Tanner Thompson and senior Eli Haisch both tacked on three points as two-point scoring came from freshmen Paxton Heppner and Drey Puppe.

The Bears finished 6-14 at the charity stripe.

Plattsmouth was led by sophomore Nate Frederick with 23 points (five made three’s), junior Derek Nanke followed with 18 points as senior Rylee Johnson added 13 points.

The Blue Devils shot 6-11 from the foul line.
