Beginning Friday, Nov. 22 area residents will see the familiar Salvation Army red kettles and hear the bells as the Wayne Salvation Army Extension Unit begins its Annual Red Kettle Campaign.
The bell ringing campaign is the primary fundraiser for the Wayne Extension Unit. Ninety percent (90%) of the funds collected in the bell ringing campaign remain in Wayne. The donated funds assist with housing, utilities, medical, transportation and other needs of families and individuals.
In addition, the Wayne SA Unit sponsored a Back-to-School event for elementary children in August. The project was successful and helped 100 children with school supplies and backpacks.
"Spread some cheer this holiday season and be a Red Kettle Volunteer. Churches, service organizations, youth groups and others are invited to participate in the bell ringing project. The only requirements are to be friendly, dress warmly, smile easily and say thank-you, and ring the bell with vigor!," said Pastor Teresa Bartlettt, a member of the local Salvation Army Extension Unit.
Bell ringers will be needed at two locations in Wayne on Friday and Saturday evenings from 4 to 6 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon. The campaign runs from Friday, Nov. 22 to Saturday, Dec. 21.
