Richard W. “Dick” Schmidt
Richard W. “Dick” Schmidt, 79, of Winside, died Thursday, March 17, 2022 at his home.
Visitation and a prayer service were held Wednesday, March 23 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Winside. The Rev. Alexander Blanken officiated. Military rites were also conducted.
Memorials may be directed to the Schmidt family for later designation.
Arrangements were with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.
Richard William Schmidt was born Sept. 29, 1942 in Newman Grove to Earl and Ethel (Sivers) Schmidt. He attended school in Newman Grove and was a graduate of Norfolk High School. Richard served in the United States Army beginning in 1961 through 1964. He worked at Carhart Lumber in Wayne for several years. Richard married Susan K. “Susie” Wert Jan. 10, 1981. The couple lived in Winside where Richard owned and operated Schmidt Construction, retiring in 2017. He enjoyed his time fishing and woodworking, but most of all spending time with his family and friends and attending great grandkids events.
Survivors include his daughter, Deanna McCoy of Belden; son, Bill (Wendy) Schmidt of Wayne; four grandchildren, Jessica Dickens (Aaron Petersen), Zachary McCoy, Jamie Schmidt, and Samantha Schmidt; three great-grandchildren, Mason, Tate and Brooklynn; and brother, Ken (Marge) Schmidt of Norfolk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ethel (Sivers) Schmidt; wife, Susan in 2017; brothers, Jim Schmidt and Bob Schmidt, and an infant daughter, Connie.
