Robert “Bob” Sherry, 85 of  Wayne, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022 at the Providence Medical Center in Wayne.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wayne. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9 at the church, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Burial with military rites will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Sherry family for later designation.

Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.

Robert Daniel Sherry was born July 14, 1936, at home, in Wayne to George Daniel and Frances Flavia (Marso) Sherry.  He graduated from Wayne Prep School in 1954. Robert joined the United States Marine Corps in September of 1954 and served as a radio operator for Navel Gunfire at Camp Pendleton in California, also serving as a trainer for new members of the team. He married Alice Sue Lee on June 25, 1956 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Stanton. Robert was a salesman in agri-business. He and his brother, Don, purchased Sherry Brothers Feed and Fertilizer and added True Value Hardware. Robert later worked at Wayne State College in security until his retirement.  

He was a member of the Concord Fire Department, serving as assistant fire chief. Robert also served as Mayor and Constable for Concord and was a member of the fair board.  They were members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served as president of St. Mary’s Men’s Club and Parish Council. Robert was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Right to Life. Robert enjoyed fishing, camping and his garden. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. 

Survivors include his children, David M. (Lynn) Sherry of Jackson, Robinette M. Conner of Wayne, Jacquelin S. Walti of San Bernardino, California, and Thomas G. (Julie) Sherry of Anaheim, California; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Sherry of Wayne; brothers, George (Maryanne) Sherry of Lincoln and Michael (Susan) Sherry of St. Paul, Minnesota; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Susie in 2018; son, Nicolas Lee in 1963; daughter-in-law, Denise in 1993; and brother Don in 2020.
