A familiar face will be making a return to the sidelines next basketball season.

Wayne High athletic director Dennis Dolliver announced Wednesday that Rocky Ruhl will be coming back to Wayne High School as a head coach next season, taking over the reins of the girls basketball team.

The announcement was made in a news release Wednesday afternoon, one day after Lindsey McLaughlin announced that she was stepping down as girls basketball coach after two seasons.

Ruhl, who retired from his position as coach and athletic director and was named to the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017, returns to the school where he taught and coached for more than three decades, including 20 years as head boys basketball coach where he amassed a 311-155 record with six trips to the state basketball tournament and a third-place finish in his final season as head coach in 2013. Since leaving his duties at Wayne High School, Ruhl coached ninth grade boys basketball as a volunteer coach.

“We believe we have just hired one of the all-time great high school basketball coaches in Nebraska,” Dolliver said. “We are very excited about the future of the program and look forward to many successes on and off the court”.
