Day four of the Class B Area 5 Senior American Legion baseball tournament on July 29 showcased a second straight elimination game for Rolling Hills Supply Post 43.
Back at Neligh Park – Anderson Field in West Point, #1 Wayne Post 43 competed against the host #2 West Point Post 70.
Rolling Hills Supply scored twice late to hold onto the 4-1 victory over West Point to improve to 24-3. West Point fell to 18-5.
Wayne scored a run in the top of the first inning. Following a trio of scoreless innings, both teams would plate a run in the fifth. After neither team scored in the sixth, Post 43 added two more insurance runs in the seventh.
Final favored Rolling Hills Supply winning 4-1 and winning the hit department, 8-7.
Kaleb Moormeier doubled, tripled and scored twice; Aiden Liston singled twice as Gavin Anderson doubled.
Alex Rodriguez singled and drove in two runs; Gavin Redden (walked three times, one intentionally) singled, drove in a run and scored; Jaxson Kneifl singled and drove in a run as Brodey Munter scored.
Liston (85 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in seven innings allowing an earned run off seven hits while striking out three batters, walking two and hitting one.
#1 Rolling Hills Supply Post 43 was to advance to the winner-take-all final on Tuesday, July 30.
With now three teams remaining following game nine of the tournament, Championship Tuesday for the Class B Area 5 Tourney will open with #2 West Point Post 70 vs. #4 Bank of the Valley Post 283 (Columbus Lakeview) at 5:30 p.m.
This will be the first meeting between West Point and Lakeview during the B5 Area Tournament as Lakeview earned a bye on Monday after winning twice on Saturday (4-3 over Wayne) and Sunday (4-1 over #5 Twin River). Lakeview began the tournament with a 5-4 loss against #3 Battle Creek last Friday.
The West Point/Lakeview winner would then face #1 Wayne 20-30 minutes after. Wayne suffered a 4-3 loss against Lakeview on Saturday and again just defeated West Point, 4-1 on Monday.
The winner of game number 11 will represent Area 5 in the Class B Senior American Legion baseball state tournament set to begin on Saturday, Aug. 3 in Holdrege. The Class B Senior American Legion baseball state tournament will be Aug. 3 – 7 in Holdrege.
