First round Class B Area 5 Senior American Legion baseball tournament competition began Friday afternoon.
From Neligh Park – Anderson Field in West Point, #1 Rolling Hills Supply Post 43 Wayne was in action with #6 O’Neill Pinnacle Bank Post 93 to start the day.
Post 43 improved to 22-2 thanks to a 9-0 victory.
Rolling Hills Supply started off with five runs in the first inning. Following a scoreless second, Wayne added three runs in the third and one more run in the fourth to win 9-0 and win the hit department, 9-3.
Wyatt Heikes tripled, drove in a run and scored; Aiden Liston doubled, drove in a run and scored as Adrian Contreras singled twice, drove in two runs and scored.
Jase Dean singled, drove in two runs and scored; Kaleb Moormeier singled and drove in two runs; Gavin Redden and Calvin Ankeny both singled and scored twice as Alex Rodriguez singled, drove in a run and scored.
Gavin Anderson (58 pitches) picked up the win in three and two-thirds allowing two hits while striking out six batters and hitting one. Heikes (17) worked an inning and a third allowing one hit while striking out two batters.
Other Friday scores favored #3 Battle Creek Post 75 winning 5-4 over #4 Bank of the Valley Post 283 (Columbus Lakeview) while the host #2 West Point Post 70 shutout #5 Twin River Titans Post 263/144, 8-0.
