Members of the Wayne Rotary Club are asking area residents to attend the Festival of Trees Feast on Thursday, Nov. 20.

From 5 to 7:30 p.m. the group will be serving a soup and dessert meal at the Wayne Auditorium, located at 220 Pearl Street in Wayne. This event will be held in conjunction with the Parade of Lights.

Free will donations will be accepted, which includes a choice of soups and homemade desserts. Wayne America’s Festival of Trees will be on display.

Carry-outs will be available that evening by contacting Craig Walling at (402) 369-2115.

Dr. Lincoln Havranek and Eric Synder will be providing free entertainment.

Since 1987, the Wayne Rotary Club has been devoted to the Rotary Ideals of Service Above Self. This event is the major fund raising activity by the Wayne Rotary club to use toward community service. Most of the proceeds go toward youth-related educational projects.

Two $1,000 scholarships are awarded each year to two Wayne High School seniors for studies at Wayne State College. Your contribution can make the difference in helping a local graduating senior pursue a local higher education degree.

A $1,000 annual scholarship is awarded to a Wayne State College student who participates in Rotaract, which is a college affiliate of the Rotary International organization. The selection criteria for this scholarship include leadership potential and community service.

The Wayne Rotary Club gives annual financial support to the Wayne TeamMates program. A number of Rotary members serve as mentors in this program as well.

Dictionaries are provided to local third graders.

Other projects have included recently donated items to the Wayne Senior Center, recycling containers at Wayne State College, items donated to Haven House and Little Roots, bike racks and fix-it stations, and outdoor games in Freedom Park. Local support for these projects is greatly appreciated.
