Wayne High School Athletic Director Dave Wragge has announced that Russ Plager will take over as Head Football Coach for Hayden DeLano, who has resigned from his teaching/coaching position at Wayne Jr./Sr. High School.

Coach DeLano served as head football coach, leading the Blue Devils program for the past three seasons.

Coach Plager was the head coach of the Blue Devil Football team from 2017-2021. His teams posted an overall record of 30 wins and 22 losses, and qualified for the playoffs in four of the five seasons under his leadership.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Plager back as head Football Coach”, said Mark Lenihan, Superintendent at Wayne. “He brings a wealth of experience, a passion for the game, and an unwavering commitment to the personal growth of our athletes both on and off the field. We believe Coach Plager is the right leader to take our football program to the next level.”

Athletic Director Dave Wragge said “We are thankful for the work Coach DeLano did with the football team over the past three seasons. The football team has developed tremendous team chemistry and a very positive team culture under his leadership."

“We are excited to bring Coach Plager and his successful experience back to the Blue Devil Football Team," Wragge added.
