Beginning on Friday, Nov. 21 area residents will see the familiar Salvation Army red kettles and hear the bells as the Wayne Extension Unit of the Salvation Army begins its Annual Bell Ringing Campaign.
The ringers will be out on Friday and Saturdays from November 21 to Dec. 20. The bell ringing campaign is the primary fundraiser for the Wayne Extension Unit. Ninety percent (90%) of the funds collected in the bell ringing campaign remain in Wayne and assist with housing, utilities, medical, transportation and other needs for families and individuals. In addition, the Wayne SA Unit sponsored a back-to-school drive for school supplies for elementary children in August. The project was very successful and helped almost 100 children with backpacks and school supplies.
Red kettles and bell ringers will be at Quality Foods and Pac’ N Save. There will also be small counter kettles at various other area businesses. The Wayne Extension Unit thanks local businesses for supporting the bell ringing campaign.
Churches, service organizations, youth groups and others are invited to participate in the bell ringing project. The only requirements are to be friendly, dress warmly, smile easily and say thank-you, and ring the bell with vigor.
The Salvation Army Extension Unit thanks all the volunteer bell ringers as well as those who give so generously to the Red Kettle Campaign. For more information or to volunteer as a bell ringer contact Phyllis Rahn at 1-402-369-3464 or Pastor Teresa Bartlett at 402.375.2669 or email sarmy@gmail.com.
