Wayne State College football and volleyball were home while both Winside and Tri County Northeast high school volleyball teams traveled to the Hartington-Newcastle Invite on Oct. 11. WSC women's soccer returned to action the following afternoon.
From Bob Cunningham Field on the campus of Wayne State College, WSC suffered a 26-21 loss to Bemidji State Univeristy.
The Wildcats (3-4/3-3 NSIC) will be off with a bye week and next host #14 Minnesota State-Mankato on Saturday, October 25 at 1 p.m.
From Rice Auditorium, #11 Wayne State College picked up a five set win over #10 St. Cloud State University (25-20, 34-36, 20-25, 25-19, 15-10).
The Wildcats (15-3/8-1 NSIC) will next visit Sioux Falls on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. and host #17 Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m.
From Hartington, Tri County Northeast won the Hartington-Newcastle Invite winning all three of their matches while Winside went 0-3 suffered a loss in the fifth place match.
In pool play, the Allen/Emerson-Hubbard co-op first swept the host Wildcats (25-17, 25-18) before winning in three sets over Wausa (25-16, 18-25, 25-18).
During the finals, Tri County Northeast swept Bloomfield (25-21, 25-19).
The Wolfpack (17-4) will next travel to the Winside triangular on Tuesday, Oct. 14 along with Hartington-Newcastle starting at 5:30 p.m.
Winside began pool play with a 2-0 loss to Bloomfield (22-25, 18-25) followed by a three set loss against Madison (25-11, 22-25, 21-25).
In the fifth place match, Winside suffered a 2-0 loss against Wausa (15-25, 20-25).
The Winside Wildcats (9-11) will next host both Tri County Northeast and Hartington-Newcastle for a triangular on Tuesday, Oct. 14 starting at 5:30 p.m.
On Sunday, the WSC women's soccer team lost 3-2 at Minot State University in North Dakota.
The Wildcats (4-3-4/3-3-2 NSIC) have dropped three straight and will next host Southwest Minnesota State on Friday, Oct. 17 at 3 p.m. before visiting Sioux Falls on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m.
