Final matches for both Wayne and Wakefield volleyball, two Wayne High softball games as well as Wayne State College volleyball and football took over a busy Saturday.
The Jean Groth Volleyball Classic closed out with Wayne competing at Wisner-Pilger in the Gold Division while Wakefield traveled to Pender for Bronze Division matches.
Wayne High (5-2) first suffered a 2-1 loss against Oakland-Craig (18-25, 25-21, 16-25), were swept by GACC (18-25, 21-25) and won 2-1 over North Bend (25-13, 22-25, 25-23).
Wayne will next entertain Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Thursday, September 11 starting at 5 p.m.
Wakefield (0-7) dropped three straight matches by 2-0 scores starting with Bancroft-Rosalie (no scores posted), West Point-Beemer (16-25, 23-25) and Pender (11-25, 22-25).
Wakefield will next visit Madison on Tuesday, September 9 starting at 5 p.m.
Back in Papillion for day two of the NFCA Kaiti Williams Memorial Leadoff Classic Tournament, Wayne softball played two more games.
The Blue Devils (7-5) dropped games against Elkhorn South (12-0) and Papillion-LaVista South (12-0).
Wayne High will next host Lakeview (Columbus) on Tuesday, September 9 starting at 4:30 p.m.
#21 Wayne State College volleyball played their final match against the host Trevecca Nazarene during the Ray Thrasher Classic in Nashville, TN. WSC suffered a four set loss (18-25, 18-25, 25-15, 20-25) falling to 3-1.
The Wildcats will next travel to Denver, CO for the Colorado Premier Challenge opening with Lewis University (IL) on Friday, September 12 at 11 a.m. CT along with MSU Denver at 3 p.m. CT.
In front of a crowned of nearly 1,800 fans, the Wayne State College football team played host to University of Mary during Family Day Weekend. The Wildcats won 42-7 to improve to 1-1 (1-0 NSIC). WSC is next scheduled to visit Northern State University on Saturday, September 13 starting at 6 p.m. in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
