Ahead of a fourth Wayne State College spring sports team spring break competition, a member of the Wildcat women’s golf team earned a top in-season league honor.

According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, junior Saffire Sayre was named NSIC Women’s Golfer of the Week Wednesday afternoon following her performance in last week’s Southern Nazarene/Diffee Ford Lincoln Invitational. The event was held March 3-4 in Edmond, Oklahoma.

It’s the first time the graduate of West Des Moines Valley High School in Iowa has collected NSIC Golfer of the Week honors.

Sayre shot rounds of 77 and a season-low 74 (+4) to finish in a tie for 13th out of 93 players with a 36-hole score of 151. It was her third and fourth rounds in the 70’s this season for the Wildcats.  Sayre lowered her season scoring average from 82.4 to 81.25 with the performance.
