Wayne State redshirt freshman thrower Mckenzie Scheil was named the NSIC Women's Field Athlete of the Week to open the outdoor track and field season following her performances in the Wildcats’ first two meets.
Scheil opened the outdoor season with a first-place finish in the hammer throw at the Wildcat Classic on March 23 with a NCAA provisional mark of 174 feet, 9 inches, and followed that with another first-place finish in the hammer throw at the Alex Francis/Fort Hays State Classic with a mark of 173-8, while placing second in the shot put with an NCAA provisional mark of 45-10.
Her marks in both events currently lead the NSIC while ranking 12th in NCAA Division II in the hammer throw and 22nd nationally in the shot put.
