Following hearings to set the final tax request and the budget, the Wayne Community Schools' Board of Education approved the budget for the 2026-2027 school year.
Wayne Schools Superintendent Dr. Mark Lenihan shared information with the board on the total district valuation, $1,537,391,127, which is up 2% from last year.
Also on Monday agenda was information on a student teaching program offered through Wayne State College. It involves those in the education field who would be able to provide long-term substitute teaching for the district.
Information shared during the meeting noted that the total attendance for Pre-K through 12 grade is 1,035 students. This compares with 1,058 students enrolled at this time last year. The lower number is due, in part, to the graduation of one of largest classes in recent history.
The Wayne Community Schools' Board of Education will next meet in regular session on Monday, Oct. 12 at 5 p.m.
