Wakefield School Board signs separation agreement with superintendent

In a meeting that lasted less than 10 minutes, the Wakefield Community Schools' Board of Education approved a separation agreement with Superintendent Matt Farup.

Under the agreement, Farup's separation becomes effective June 30, 2026 and he will receive full compensation up to that time.

In addition, the district will pay Farup a sum of $155,000.

The only other item on the agenda during the special meeting was agreeing to contract with the Nebraska School Boards Association to assist the board in the process of obtaining an interim superintendent for the 2026-2027 school year.

Board President Jeff Keagle said the board will hopefully be able to interview candidates the first week of June.

In a Facebook post on the school's website, the Board noted "it has become apparent in recent weeks that Mr. Farup and the board have differing visions for the future of Wakefield Community Schools. The Board of Education wishes Mr. Farup the best in future endeavors."

Farup was originally hired as a principal at the school and signed a three-year contract for the superintendent's position in 2022. He signed a new contract in 2025 for an additional two years.

The full separation agreement can be found on the district's website.
