Schutt and Winside girls 4x800 win gold, Offner controls throwing events

A jam packed Saturday of Lewis & Clark Conference track & field action showcased top competitors along with the Winside girls and boys.

From Winnebago, nine girls and 11 boys teams were in action over the weekend.

The Winside girls finished fifth with 41 points while the Winside boys took seventh with 24 points.

In the girls division, Homer won the Lewis and Clark Conference team title with 123 points, Tri County Northeast (Allen/Emerson-Hubbard) took second (108), Bloomfield placed third (92), Wausa finished fourth (87) and Winside rounded out the top five teams with 41 points.

Winside leaders were sophomore Hadleigh Schutt who won the shot put (36' 11"/PR) and took second during the discus (108'/PR) while the 4x800-meter relay team of sophomore Adrianna Miller, freshman Bridget Marotz, sophomore Aleah Bilstein and sophomore Katelyn Jaeger crossed the line first (11:03.1).

Jaeger placed fourth in the 3200-meter run (14:19.95).

Marotz finished sixth in the 100-meter dash (13.69/PR) and sixth during the high jumop (4' 6") as Miller took sixth during the 1600-meter run (6:23.61/PR).

In relays, the 4x100 of Bilstein, Miller, freshman Riley Petersen and Marotz collected a bronze medal (4:50.2).

During the boys division, Creighton won the Lewis and Clark Conference team title with 101 points, Homer took second (99), Bloomfield placed third (98), Wausa finished fourth (60) and Tri County Northeast rounded out the top five teams with 51 points.

Winside was led by junior Caleb Offner winning both the shot put (52' 7 1/4") and discus (154').

Sophomore Tyler Paulsen took fifth during the discus (123' 10"/PR) and placed sixth in the shot put (41' 6 1/4"/PR).

Sophomore Carter Krause finished sixth in the long jump (17' 8 3/4").

The Winside girls and boys track & field team will next compete in the Winside Invite held in Laurel on Thursday, May 8.
