Class D took center stage during the district championship round for Nebraska high school track and field.
From the Humphrey Track hosted by Archangels Catholic, Winside joined 11 programs on May 14.
The Winside girls finished fifth with 41.33 points while the Winside boys took eighth with 18 points.
In the girls division, Wausa edged Archangels Catholic (115.33 – 107.33), Hartington-Newcastle followed in third (102), Howells-Dodge took fourth (86) and Winside rounded out the top five teams with 41.33 points.
Sophomore Hadleigh Schutt qualified for state as district champion in the shot put (37′ 1 3/4″) along with a silver medal during the discus (115′ 6″), both personal bests to lead the Winside girls.
Also earning points were sophomore Adrianna Miller during a third place finish in the 1600-meter run (6:39.76), sophomore Katelyn Jaeger took fifth in the 3200-meter run (15:39.27) and a sixth place finish in the shot put from sophomore Ellie Topp (31′ 3/4″/PR).
Freshman Bridget Marotz also tied for fourth in the high jump (4′ 7″).
In relays, the 4×800 of Miller, Jaeger, sophomore Aleah Bilstein and sophomore Hadley Sellin finished runner-up (11:18.74) as the 4×400 of Bilstein, Miller, Sellin and Marotz placed fourth (4:51.94).
During the boys division, Hartington-Newcastle held off Howells-Dodge (112-104), followed by the host Archangels Catholic in third (86), Wasua took fourth (79) and Bancroft-Rosalie rounded out the top five teams with 36 points.
Junior Caleb Offner captured gold to lead the Winside boys as a state qualifier in the discus with a personal best 157′ 9″ (won by over a foot) along with a runner-up finish during the shot put (48′ 1/2″).
The 2025 NSAA State Track & Field Championships will open with Class A/B on Wednesday and Thursday, May 21 – 22 followed by Class C/D on Friday and Saturday, May 23 – 24. Competition will take place at Burke Stadium in Omaha.
