A three-run fifth inning put the game out of reach for Wayne/Wakefield as GACC/Scribner-Snyder/West Point-Beemer posted a 7-2 win in the B-6 district baseball tournament Friday at Orval Smith Field in Ralston.
The Patriots pushed across two runs in the second inning on a pair of Wayne/Wakefield miscues, but Wayne/Wakeifeld got a run back in the third when Brennan O’Reilly walked, moved to second on an Isaac Camarena sacrifice, advanced to third on Jose Sanchez’ groundout and scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1.
The Patriots scored again in the bottom of the third, but Wayne made it 3-2 in the fifth when O’Reilly reached on an error and scored on Camarena’s double that went over the center fielder’s head. GACC answered that run with three in the bottom of the fifth, using three hits and two errors to take control of the game.They added another run in the sixth to close the scoring and end Wayne/Wakefield’s season.
Camarena, Zane Jackson and Tyler Lutt all had hits for Wayne/Wakefield. Adam Bentjen pitched well for 4 1/3 innings, striking out seven and giving up only one earned run before Camarena came on in relief.
GACC/S-S/WP-B advances to a 4 p.m. game Saturday against top-seeded Ralston. The Wayne/Wakefield team ends the season with a 2-16 record.
