Second day of state wrestling sets up championship Saturday, Grant Maas to open with consolation semifinal

Second day wrestling action saw more heartbreak along with the opportunity to medal advancing into the weekend.

Back at the CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha, wrestlers began to be eliminated during the consolation rounds while semifinals also put on a show.

After second day action, the Wayne boys were sitting tied for 37th with seven points among their four state qualifiers in Class B

Moving into semifinal competition, Grant Maas (150) fell to 35-7 following a loss by fall (2:17) to Bryce Kunz (45-4) from Central City. Maas is back in action during the consolation semifinal against Aaron Wilson from Cozad (win advance to third place/loss fall to fifth place medal matches). Wrestling begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Earlier in the day in consolation round one, Ethan Gregory (120) finished his season at 20-18 following a loss by tech fall (1:34, 17-2), Noah Magnuson (132) closed at 21-27 after suffering a loss by fall (2:54) and Maddox Ziska (285) went 23-18 this season following a loss by fall (4:30) all in consolation first round.

Also, Wakefield’s Class C144-lber Domingo Centino ended his season at 27-14 following a loss by decision (13-7).
