After losing on a late rally at Columbus Lakeview, the Wayne American Legion Seniors got back on the winning track with a 4-1 win at Albion on Thursday.
Wayne did all their damage in the second inning, thanks to an RBI single by Caden Korth, a sacrifice bunt by Mason Lee and two Albion errors that brought runs home.
That was enough for starter Adam Bentjen, who went the distance with a three-hitter, striking out five to help Wayne improve to 9-7 on the season. O’Reilly had two of Wayne’s five hits in the game.
In Wednesday’s game at Columbus Lakeview, the hosts got a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to cap a three-run rally to post a 6-5 win over Wayne.
Wayne took a 3-2 lead in the second when Brennan O’Reilly scored on an error and Tucker Nichols stroked a two-run double to left. They would add runs in the fifth on an error and in the sixth on a Tyler Lutt double, scoring Bentjen.
Wayne opens Ralph Bishop League tournament play on Monday.
