Seniors win RBL tourney opener

The Wayne Post 43 American Legion Seniors won their regular-season finale and advanced to the second round of the Ralph Bishop League tournament to improve to 13-6 on the season.

On Wednesday, the Seniors rolled to a 9-0 shutout of West Point at Hank Overin Field. 

Wayne put the game away in the fourth inning with a six-run blast that included doubles by Aiden Liston and James Dorcey.

Gavin Redden led a seven-hit effort with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Dorcey had two hits and two RBI’s and Wyatt Heikes had a two-RBI single as well Liston scored two runs and Devin Anderson came home to score a run.

Brooks Kneifl was masterful in the win, allowing just one hit while striking out 10.

In the first round of the North Division bracket of the RBL tournament, Wayne smoked South Sioux City in a 16-1 blowout.

Wayne put things to bed early, scoring three in the first and 10 in the second on their way to the easy win.

Calvin Starzl had his best game of the year at the plate, recording three hits, two of them doubles, to go with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Redden had a single, double and triple, driving in four and scoring two of his own, as part of the 14-hit barrage. Kneifl and Kaleb Moormeier both hit homers in the 10-run second inning, Heikes had two RBIs and Jase Dean scored twice.

Redden pitched the four-inning win for Wayne with five hits and three walks allowed to go with four strikeouts.

Wayne faced Crofton in the divisional semifinals Tuesday at Battle Creek. The finals are set for Saturday at Wakefield, with the consolation game at 1 p.m. and the championship at 6 p.m.
