Several Wildcat women’s & men’s indoor competitors open track & field season at Holiday Invite

Ahead of a busy January and February for the indoor track & field season, Wayne State College took several members of their team up to Brookings, South Dakota.

From the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex, the Wildcats were listed among the 20+ teams from NCAA DI, DII and DIII ranks along with NAIA schools during the SDSU Holiday Invite last Friday.

The Wayne State College women’s indoor track & field team were led by a runner-up mark from Reilly Young during the weight throw (52’ 5 ¼”) along with a third-place finish in the 600-meter run from Zoey Holmes in a time of 1:39.02.

Kaitlyn Bloomenrader was sixth in the 600-meter run (1:41.81).

Allie Czapla was fifth in the one mile run at 5:45.18 while Maelee Beacom collected a seventh-place finish with a time of 5:49.71. Kailee Kellum came in seventh place in the long jump at 16’ 11 ¼” with Sydney Escritt taking eighth in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 11:08.02.

Olivia Schwarzrock placed in both championship throwing events, taking seventh in the shot put at 44’ 3 ½” and eighth in the weight throw at 56’ 8”. Jalecia Williams took fourth in the shot put at 40’ 6 ¼”.

The Wayne State College men’s indoor track & field team also showcased a runner-up finish as their top individual result was posted by Quentin Dreyer in the 3,000-meter run (8:41.91). Another second place mark came from J’Dyn Bullion in the weight throw (54’ 2”).

In the 600-meter run, Ethan Walters crossed the line in fourth place at 1:24.58 followed by Brody Lucas in ninth at 1:25.93.  Akron Jostand took eighth in the one mile run in a time of 4;35.43.

Daniel Elge posted top-10 finishes in the championship division of two events taking ninth in the shot put at 49’ 3 ¾” and was 10th in the weight throw at 52; 9 ¼”.

In the men’s shot put, Jaxson Ninete was eighth with a top mark of 47’ 5 ¼”.

The weight throw saw Jake Peitz eighth (49’ ¾”) and Braden McGill 10th at 48’ 2 ½”.

Mitchell Hupp placed sixth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.06 seconds while Elliott Nottlemann earned a ninth-place finish in the high jump clearing 6’ 2 ¾”.

The Wayne State College women’s and men’s indoor track & field team will resume the 2025 season on Saturday, January 18 at the Mount Marty Invitational in Yankton, South Dakota.

As work continues on the Athletic & Recreation Complex project and inside the air-supported structure, the Wildcat Dome will host its first athletic competition on Saturday, February 8 during the Wildcat Indoor Classic.
