At approximately 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 14 the Wayne County Sheriff's Office responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash which resulted in two fatalities.

Shawn Wiedeman was westbound on Highway 35, at the intersection of 566th Avenue.  Wiedeman was stopped, yielding to traffic so he could turn south onto 566th Avenue.  A westbound Honda trike, driven by Jerry Sievers, was also westbound, and struck the rear portion of the Wiedeman vehicle.  Jerry, and his passenger (wife, Karen Sievers) were thrown from the trike upon impact, and were pronounced deceased at the scene.

A passenger of the Wiedeman vehicle was transported to Faith Regional Hospital and treated and released for minor injuries.  A portion of Highway 35 was shut down for approximately two hours while the crash investigation was conducted.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Nebraska State Patrol, the Hoskins/Woodland Park Volunteer Fire Departments, the Winside Volunteer Fire Department, the Carroll Volunteer Fire Department, and the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

The crash remains under investigation.
